The Jakarta Police have set up measures, including providing vehicle garages at several police precincts, to ensure security during the Idul Fitri homecoming period, or mudik, during which many Jakartans leave their houses and vehicles unattended.

Jakarta Police chief Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian said the city police had coordinated with precinct police (Polres) and subprecinct police (Polsek) stations to open up their parking lots to be used as public garages as many Jakartans returned to their hometowns without their vehicles.

Some Polres and Polsek are reported to have already confirmed the plan, including the North Jakarta Polres, which will offer its facilities for free.

Tito added that the police were ready to register unoccupied houses in residential areas, as well as conduct regular patrols and establish security posts.
